I’ve been in a bit of a writing slum as of late, or more likely I have been way too busy to allow creative juices to flow. Last week I had a couple days off and made this… Enjoy! It’s entitled “When I Met You”

Here’s to writing more in 2012!

What day is it?
December 21st, 2011… four days before Christmas, but wait, that can’t possibly be true. Where are the lights? The music? The cheer and celebration? No, I must be mistaken. The only things present that are signature to his time of year are long hours, angry customers, and holiday pay. Well at least there’s holiday pay. Merry Christmas to all my lovers back home, enjoy each others company. I wish I was there too.

Something’s New
It’s odd. Unsettling for sure, but not really negative. That moment when you realize you weren’t right… When you realize it was just emotions, your assumptions were incorrect, the things you though about yourself and the labels you put on yourself were all wrong. That moment when you realize you don’t know anything about the things you were writing your songs about, and you don’t really believe it anymore. It’s a time of realigning and sheer discovery. Here’s to the journey.

Since the Christmas Season is right around the corner, I recorded this for all my favorites back home, who I don’t get to spend Christmas with this year. I love you all dearly. Enjoy!

Another Day Goes By
Life is monotonous.
I took the familiar shirt off the plastic hanger and folded it the same way I learned to fold shirts all those summers ago when I would sit on the tile floor folding the Elevate shirts for youth summer camps.
I placed the shirt neatly into my worn bag which has served me so well for all these years.
On the ride there I avoided the same big bump in the road I do everyday on my black Malvern Star push bike. I took the long way around the park as I normally do, so I could smell the blooming jasmine that, oh so delicately, wind up the wooden trellises in the courtyard. I pedaled to the top of that huge hill that I loath with a burning passion until I reach the top, where if I stand tall enough I can see the entire city and the harbor before I whoosh down the hill and feel the breeze blowing against my ruddy cheeks.
I took the short cut through the park and watched the people… Some doing Yoga, others skating or reading, and some just there doing what I was doing.
I locked up my transportation making sure to put the lock through the wheel, which I discovered the hard way can be taken off as a practical joke, and walked towards the station. Next thing I know I’m running off the lift and into the train on platform eleven which “arrives at Bondi Junction via Central.”
I opened the glass doors and once again recounted the fact that I have an amazing job and felt the gush of pride go through me as I put on that familiar shirt. I do this nearly every day of my week.
All this to say life is monotonous, but why is that a bad thing? I live in the one of the most beautiful cities, work at one of the most beautiful beaches, for one of the most prestigious companies in the world, and I absolutely love every minute of it. Again, I state life is monotonous, so we must choose what we will do with that. It is the difference between contentment and apathy.
